Green Living – 4 Green Cleaning Tips

One of the easiest steps you can take to green living in your everyday life is to change your cleaning habits. With that in mind, here are some green cleaning tips to get you started:

1. Use Green Cleaning Products

There was a time when it was nearly impossible to find green cleaning products. That’s no longer the case. Today, you can find them in nearly every grocery store across the country, as well as hundreds of websites on the Internet. In fact, you can find a green alternative for toilet cleaners, window cleaners, kitchen cleaners, general household cleaners, even laundry cleaners. Make the switch and take a huge step toward not living green, but eliminating toxic chemicals and fumes from your home.

2. Make Your Own Cleaner

There are a variety of recipes online for making your own green, non-toxic cleaner. For example, in the bathroom and kitchen, all you need to do is sprinkle a little baking soda over the surface, add water and scrub. If you encounter tough stains, greasy stains, try a combination of lemon juice and vinegar. There are green recipes for just about every cleaning situation.

3. Use Green Cleaning Cloths

Did you even know that there are green cleaning cloths? Most people don’t. The cheapest and most common is simply made from recycled cotton. But there are other cloths, such as Gleen, which does the whole job just by adding water. No need for expensive and toxic cleaners. And it cleans just about any household surface you’ll encounter.

4. Green Carpet Cleaning

There are both carpet cleaning services and carpet cleaning products that can be helpful to your green living efforts. The products are often plant-derived, 100% biodegradable and non-toxic. Exactly what you’re looking for when you take on household cleaning projects. In addition, you can steam clean your carpet, which generally does not require a cleaning solvent. However, keep in mind that you want a real steam cleaning process, not one that simply dumps a ton of water on your carpet. You won’t be happy with the results if it isn’t true steam cleaning.
